Maple Sugar Cones

Maple Sugar Cones

First off, I’d like to apologize as I have not posted something in a while.  I’ve been busy prepping for Christmas Eve and feeding my dad’s family of 50!  And since Christmas is the time of year I’d spend the most cooking with my mom and I miss her, I thought I’d give you a special treat from her to you!  These little cones were her trademark in the last couple of years and I’m now on the same path…  I do not know where she got the recipe and I’m sure it exists somewhere on the net but here is her favorite one.

These are hard to resist even if you do not have a sweet tooth! It’s like maple fudge with a little crunch and will take you back to your childhood for sure.   The happy part of this recipe is that it is done in the microwave!!! So clean up is a breeze but you will need to figure out a way to keep those cones up while you fill them up.  My dad had made a special rack for my mom but you could also pour some sugar in a big plastic container or deep dish pan and hold up your cones in there while you fill them up (just keep the sugar for a future batch! 😉 )

This recipe will fill up about one full box of those mini cones (a box holds up about 70 cones).

Maple Sugar ConesIn a big* microwave safe bowl (I use my measuring glass that holds up 12 cups), melt the butter in the microwave.  Once melted, add the maple syrup, brown sugar & condensed milk, give it a stir and microwave for a total of 9 minutes, stirring every 2 minutes and adding the marshmallows on the last minute**.  Stir and fill up the cones.  My mom used to put a tiny marshmallow in the bottom of each cone in order to fill more and also as a safety precaution in case the bottom broke in transport.  😉  The only hard part left is to wait until it cools enough to eat them.  You can store them in the freezer easily but I’m pretty sure they won’t last that long…. at least they don’t in my house.  🙂

*The mixture will bubble up and you need a high bowl in order to avoid the mess.

**Be careful, the sugar is really hot and you could easily burn yourself.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of unsalted butter
  • 1 can of condensed milk
  • 1 cup of brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup of maple syrup
  • 1 cup of mini marshmallows
  • about 70 small cones
